Firework firsts
Fireworks were probably first made in China about 2,000 years ago. The first European countries to use fireworks were Italy and France, in the 1300s. The first recorded use of fireworks in Britain was in 1486 at the wedding of Henry VII to Elizabeth of York. The first fireworks in America were set off by Captain John Smith, Pocahontas’ sweetheart.
Is your firework safe?
Check that your fireworks conform to the British Safety standard BS7114. Don't use any firework that doesn't have this mark on the firework selection box and the firework itself.
